Stay Frosty: Part tailgate, part trunk show, part art fair, part site-specific exhibition

From October 24–26, BravinLee Programs will transform a Harlem parking lot at 128th and Convent Avenue into Stay Frosty, an open-air exhibition where twenty-four parking spaces will host installations by artists, curators, and collectives, reimagining vehicles as mobile galleries. Among some of the works are Willie Cole’s H₂O Harlem Coupe constructed from 2,000 recycled water bottles, and Traci Johnson’s Safe Space van—a plush sanctuary lined with faux fur and tactile comfort. Christina Massey and Kate Rusek reimagine a car as a platform for their biomorphic sculpture, a living testament to ecological renewal. BravinLee’s own contribution features a trunk brimming with art by several artists and a fifteen-foot inflatable boulder by Guy Richards Smit, a witty ode to the eternal commuter’s grind. Painter and New York City car owner Tom Sanford channels his frustrations with the expense and chaos of city parking into an ersatz attendant’s booth, rich with references to the culture, lore, and history of urban motoring. Field Projects presents Kate Corroon Skakel, whose crocheted basketball net and backboard Baller (For Ray) pays tribute to New York City’s favorite sport through themes of play, community, and nostalgia. Jeila Gueramian will outfit her 1982 Volvo station wagon with her signature crocheted textile environment, turning the vehicle itself into a vessel of intricate detail.  There will even be an exhibitor lounge housed in a 17-foot truck donated by Atelier 4, offering a creative respite amid the bustle. Among the art work included in the lounge will be work by Resurrect Studio who creates delicate sculptures from Victorian-era NYC landfill glass, bridging past and present in translucent form.

The weekend will also feature events; one from Gracie Mansion—reviving her iconic 1981 Limo Show—and recurring performances by Amy Rose Khoshbin, presented by Debra Simon Consulting. The surrounding fences and sidewalks will extend the exhibition’s reach, turning the lot into a living, breathing art fair and community gathering. Inspired by billboard signage, Lola Lefrancois’ site-specific installation questions the role of landscape painting and its representation. Made possible through the generosity of Haussmann DevelopmentStay Frosty celebrates collaboration, accessibility, and community.
The free exhibition runs Friday and Saturday from 12–7 p.m., and Sunday from 12–6 p.m
