Taller Boricua Gallery presents Welcome to Harlem USA, a solo exhibition of photographs by Ruben Natal-San Miguel, curated by master printmaker and Co-founder of Taller Boricua, Nitza Tufiño. On view from March 12 through May 17, 2026, the exhibition brings together a selection of photographs documenting the people, storefronts, murals, and everyday beauty of Harlem’s many communities—from
El Barrio to West Harlem.

For more than twenty-five years, Ruben Natal-San Miguel has photographed Harlem’s neighborhoods with a deeply attentive eye, creating a visual record of communities shaped by migration, cultural pride, and artistic expression. His work captures both the resilience and evolving character of these historic neighborhoods, where the Puerto Rican diaspora and other immigrant communities have left an enduring cultural imprint.

Working with a journalistic sensibility, Ruben Natal-San Miguel records the precise location, time, and circumstances of each photograph, transforming his images into a living archive of Harlem. The resulting body of work reflects not only the vitality of the neighborhood’s people and businesses, but also the rapid changes reshaping the landscape.

Nitza Tufiño’s curatorial approach for this exhibition highlights Ruben Natal-San Miguel’s photographs as both artistic works and cultural documents, honoring Harlem’s communities while preserving their stories for future generations.

Founded in 1970 in East Harlem, Taller Boricua has served for more than five decades as a center for Puerto Rican and Latinx artistic production and dialogue.
