Art Toronto
October 26-29
Art Toronto, now in its 13th year appears to be a fair to watch. Held at the central Metro Convention Center, from October 26th through the 29th, this year's preview was heavily attended. In keeping with past fairs, the opening night preview was filled with mostly Canadian galleries sprinkled with a few U.K., Latin American and U.S. spaces. Yet this year, Toronto's scene stepped up its game with FOCUS ASIA. FOCUS ASIA curators selected 14 galleries to participate culling from India, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and more. The fair's highlights included a newfound interest in abstraction among younger painters, a performance piece/rally race at the back of the fair, and a few, rare historical pieces by Emily Carr.
