SAMUEL FREEMAN NODS TO THE GALLERY'S ILLUSTRIOUS PAST AND FAVORABLE FUTURE WITH SUMMER GROUP DRAWING SHOW: LOVE TO PARTY Love To Party
(Santa Monica, CA - June, 2008) For its summer group show (opening July 19, 2008), Samuel Freeman will exhibit work selected around the question of what an artist calls a drawing. Love To Party is not your typical drawing show, however. Rather than attempting to expand the boundaries of the genre, Love To Party relies on a very simple curatorial test: each participating artist must personally consider his or her submitted work a drawing. To that end, the exhibition will feature sculpture, painting, and classical "drawings", ranging in scale and material. Taking its name from a Craig Kauffman piece titled "Love to Patty", Love To Party is a nod to the gallery's founder Patricia R. Faure and the gallery's rich history. Like Samuel Freeman's current artist roster, Love to Party draws together many friends of the gallery --the artists that put L.A. on the map-- for exhibition alongside an exciting array of emerging artists, including:
