Miami Art Week 2025: Your Essential Guide to the Fairs, Exhibits, and Chaos

BY J. SCOTT ORR November 26, 2025

MIAMI BEACH – The art world makes its annual southern pilgrimage December 2-7, transforming Miami into a pop cosmopolis where billion-dollar gallery dealings and guerrilla street art occupy the same tropical latitude, where museum-quality installations share oxygen with 20-foot bubblegum-pink inflatables, where the carefully constructed hierarchies of the art world melt away faster than the most carefully applied sunscreen.

This is Miami Art Week 2025: cultural summit, market barometer, and unrepentant bacchanal rolled into seven days of creative delirium. Art Basel Miami Beach still sets the gravitational center—281 galleries from 43 countries converging on the Miami Beach Convention Center. From there the story sprawls across the causeway into Wynwood's spray-painted alleys, onto the beach with Scope and UNTITLED, into hotel lobbies transformed into impromptu galleries, and through warehouse spaces where the line between opening reception and afterparty is blurred if not erased completely.

The economic indicators tell one story: high-net-worth individuals (as the wealthy elite are now called) spend an average of $439,000 annually on art, with women collectors outpacing men by 46%. Digital art has surged to third place in collector spending. Gen Z allocates 26% of their wealth to art. The Art Basel and UBS Global Collecting Survey confirms what Miami proves every December—the market adapts, diversifies, and keeps moving, even through trade fragmentation and economic uncertainty.

The event opens just a week after record breaking auctions at Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Philips in New York, with more than $1.5 billion in art changing hands including a $236 million Gistav Klimt, a record for a piece of modern art, and a $55 million Frida Kahlo that broke the record for a work by a woman artist at auction.

But the week's actual texture is far more complex and inclusive than spending trends might suggest. You’ve got collectors in designer linen swilling champagne and negotiating seven-figure deals between Tiësto sets at LIV. Aerosol artists battling at the Museum of Graffiti while Modelo flows and TATS Cru talks business. Black Coffee commandeering the historic Downtown Courthouse for Space Basel. Street artists RETNA and El Mac reuniting after 12 years for their first collaborative mural at Wynwood Walls, where Jessica Goldman Srebnick's "ONLY HUMAN" exhibition asks what remains uniquely human in the age of AI.

Over a dozen major fairs anchor the fine art proceedings—SCOPE celebrating its 24th edition, NADA at Ice Palace Studios championing young galleries, UNTITLED bringing 100+ galleries from 29 countries to the sand, Pinta spotlighting Latin American art—each offering distinct entry points into the sprawling global art ecosystem. But the week belongs equally to the off-program insurgents: emerging artists staging pop-ups, DJs transforming Factory Town into fractal chaos until sunrise, David LaChapelle unveiling nine world premieres at VISU Contemporary, Philippe Katerine's inflatable "Mr. Pink" hovering over Lincoln Road.

The boundaries dissolve here. Between collectors arriving by helicopter and muralists by U-Haul. Between champagne-soaked Basel vernissages and Wynwood's raw creative energy. Between what the art market anoints and what actually matters. For seven days, Miami becomes the proving ground where reputations are minted, careers launched, and the very definition of contemporary art is contested. It’s exhausting, essential, and utterly without precedent in its ability to compress the entire contemporary art world into a single space and time.

Here’s what’s happening:

PRACTICAL INTEL

Most fairs follow similar patterns: VIP/press previews on opening days, then public hours running roughly 11 am-7 pm (or later) through the week, closing earlier on Sunday. Budget for tickets, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and the psychological fortitude to witness extreme wealth distribution in real time.
