The performance "EL DORADO. Guided Tour" of Danica Dakic is part of her work "EL DORADO, Gießbergstraße" (2006-2007), that she has produced for documenta 12. It was made in Kassel, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Sarajevo and it consists of a sound and video installation, a photograph, and a performance. The video installation and the photograph are exhibited in Schloss Wilhelmshöhe, the sound installation is in the German Tapetenmuseum, where also the performance will take place from 18 to 20 July.
It revisits the conceptual and formative point of departure for the artistic work of Danica Dakic, the panorama wallpaper "El Dorado", on view in the Tapetenmuseum. There Danica Dakic takes visitors on a tour of the museum, assisted by a teenager, Robel Mesgena, and the director of the Tapetenmuseum, Sabine Thümmler. The artist will wear a dress developed jointly by the designer Lejla Hodzic and engineers and equipped with loudspeakers and sensors. She thus acts as an image carrier and - by allowing the participating pupils to speak via her body on eight different audio tracks - as a mouthpiece.
