Art fairs are trade shows, but they are also a place to discover new artists, new work by your favorite artists and unknown treasures that are new to the market. Some people come to buy while others just come to look. There’s no better place to do both than at Art Basel in Basel, which opened to VIP visitors on June 11, the general public on June 13 and runs through June 16.

Sifting through more than 1000 photographs shot in the Galleries, Statements, Unlimited, Feature and Edition sections by Art Basel’s team of photographers during the opening days of the fair, we’ve selected 25 images that curiously catch people in the art of looking at art, while simultaneously providing a peak at some of the fascinating artworks on view.
