NEWD Art Show in Bushwick

By PAUL LASTER, JUNE, 2014

Coinciding with Bushwick Open Studios, the NEWD Art Show kicked off its inaugural edition in a 7,000 square foot warehouse on Johnson Avenue with a preview party catered by local hotspot Roberta’s. A mix of Brooklyn artist collectives, project spaces, nonprofits, and artist-run and commercial galleries offered work in a variety of media by emerging artists.

"Our aim is to bring a new audience to Bushwick to see a dynamic community of artists and gallerists that we haven't seen since SoHo in the 80s," said NEWD co-organizer Kibum Kim.

Exhibitors included American Medium, COED Contemporáneo, Law Office, Marina T. Schindler, Rawson Projects, Regina Rex, Residency Unlimited, Sardine, Signal, Theodore: Art, and Season. Artist Pension Trust also presented an extension of its online exhibition We’ve All Got Issues: Video Art from the APT Collection, featuring 16 videos by an international roster of member artists, including Kalup Linzy, who performed at the preview.
