Artists seem frustrated on social media, then there are those artists who really get a lot of attention. It's puzzling to many just how this high level of popularity happens on certain social media platforms. I've found a few things that work well on social media and here is one example that I think artists can benefit from. One evening I was doing what many do - lying on the couch looking at my phone and checking/updating my various accounts. This was after artist Trevor Guthrie and I had a long talk about the horrors of politics and the fact that Facebook is taking conversations and scanning the audio to sell products -  but that's another article. My Instagram account features my paintings mostly and some images of me in my New York studio with my saxophone. I'm much bigger and better on social media than I once was and it isn't easy to accomplish, especially for artists. Then I had a thought and tried something completely new by tagging my works in many different languages. Suddenly people from all over the world started seeing my images.

I found a site that lists the word "artist" in 91 different languages and used this as the basis for a series of tags such as #umjetnik (Croation), #artisto (Esperanto), and so forth - very helpful.

Try this at home! WM
