Everyone says if you’re an artist then no matter your medium, you need to be on Instagram. But not every work of art -- even very good art -- translates intact to the smartphone app. And not every artist -- not even the genuinely talented -- manages to keep up a quality Insta feed that is its own reward. Here are 22 (mostly) LA-based artists that achieve both.

Shana Nys Dambrot is an art critic, curator, and author based in Los Angeles. She is currently LA Editor for Whitehot Magazine, Contributing Editor to Art Ltd., and a contributor to KCET’s Artbound, Flaunt, Huffington Post, The Creators Project, Vs. Magazine, Palm Springs Life, Montage, Desert Magazine, LA Review of Books, and Porter & Sail.
