"The Best Art In The World"
By PAUL LASTER, October 2019
Spending several blissful hours wandering around the 2019 Paris edition of the Outsider Art Fair, where I have co-curated a solo exhibition of the imaginative paintings and sculptures of Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, a self-taught artist from the United Arab Emirates showing with the Dubai-based gallery Lawrie Shabibi, I discovered a rich realm of enchantment at every turn.
Returning to Atelier Richelieu in the 2nd Arrondissement, the 7th Paris edition presented 42 international exhibitors from 14 countries, with 14 galleries exhibiting at the fair for the first time. Ranging from such celebrated self-taught artists as Carlo Zinelli at Galerie du Marche, Felipe Jesus Consalvos at Andrew Edlin Gallery and Shinichi Sawada at Jennifer Lauren Gallery to new discoveries like Vera Girivi and Elisabetta Zangrandi at James Barron Art, OAF Paris was chock full of gems.
