The Hole
December 16th, 2011 – February 4th, 2012

A group exhibition at The Hole, titled "...", includes work by Kadar Brock, Matt Jones, Sam Moyer and Scott Reeder. Throughout the exhibition, a cosmic yet partially absurd natural order of things comes across, located uneasily between familiar and unfamiliar territories. The walloping-sized works alternate between washed-out and luminous, with shadowy patterns that paradoxically evoke both distance and proximity. We are confronted by labyrinthine far-away sensibilities, along with the illusion of closely magnified, mineral-like formations. Matt Jones's Space Paintings are striking and bright scenes of starry frontiers, allowing for transcendence into absence, giving us a glimpse of the edge of meaning, where glamour, fantasy, and immensity are felt. Kadar Brock's paintings portray abstractions that lead up to some profound reality; this intense disposition is shared by Sam Moyer's distorted structures. Concerned with absences and the unseen, the work removes us from the stillness of the known, revealing inward patterns, irregular masses, and dissolving forces.
